VIENNA: The technocrate cabinet of transitional chancellor Brigitte Bierlein is complete since Sunday. For the post of Interior Minister the Upper Austrian Police Director Andreas Pilsl finally failed in the last moments – probably due to the resistance of the FPÖ. On Sunday in the afternoon, Bierlein announced that Wolfgang Peschorn, the president of the Finanzprokuratur, should take over the contested post.

FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker had criticised the Upper Austrian Pilsl. He described Pilsl as a “candidate of the old black BMI networks”. However,there was a compomise for the Peschorn, who represents about the Republic as a private party in the Eurofighter investigation against Airbus.

Team complete – still some surprises

Bierlein’s cabinet is complete and looks as follows:
Vice Chancellor and Minister of Justice will be Clemens Jabloner, President of the Administrative Court for more than two decades. The diplomat Alexander Schallenberg, currently head of the European section in the Federal Chancellery and close associate of former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP), is designated as foreign and European minister.

The new Chancellor mostly select the women in their top offices. According to Section Director Iris Rauskala, who will take over the Ministry of Education, and Section Officer Elisabeth Udolf-Strobl as the new Minister of Economic Affairs. The ministries of Social Affairs and Family will also go into female hands. Brigitte Zarfl, currently Head of Section in the Ministry of Social Affairs, becomes Minister for Social Affairs. Family minister will be Ines Stilling. Since 2012 she has been heading the section of women and gender equality in the Federal Chancellery. Maria Patek is proposed .. for the Ministry of Agriculture. She was the head of section III at the Ministry uptil now.

Van der Bellens adjutant becomes defense minister

Infrastructure Minister would be Andreas Reichhardt, who had served under Ex-Minister for Transport Norbert Hofer (FPÖ) as Secretary General. The proposed Minister of Defense is Thomas Starlinger, Major General of the Federal Army and since January 2017 Adjutant of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. Eduard Müller is to serve as Minister of Finance.

Oath taking ceremony on Monday at 11 o’clock

President Van der Bellen has accepted Bierlein’s proposals and hold talks with all ministers to be appointed, as his spokesman confirmed on Sunday afternoon. The head of state would invites the government on Monday at 11 clock in the Hofburg to swear
