PRAGUE: RegioJet announces record year 2018. Its trains carried nearly 10 million passengers and the company expects profit before tax of 4 million EUR
RegioJet, the largest private train operator in Central Europe – headquartered in the Czech Republic, reports the record traffic and economic results for the last year. In 2018, RegioJet trains carried 9.7 million passengers on all its routes. Compared to 2017, it is a massive year-on-year increase of 29 %.
At the same time, RegioJet reports successful economic results for 2018. According to preliminary non-audited results, in 2018 profit before tax should reach almost 4 mil. EUR (CZK 100 million). This is also a record result showing the high profitability of investments in the railway sector.
Radim Jančura, owner of RegioJet, says: “Rail transport is a highly promising field of our business. Our trains are profitable on all the lines – including the newly established open access services on the Prague – Brno – Vienna route. We launched these services in December 2017, and after only one year the economy is profitable. Thanks to fair prices and better services, we managed to attract hundreds of thousands of new passengers to trains connecting Prague, Brno and Vienna.
RegioJet long distance open access inter-city trains, carried approximately 5.9 million passengers in 2018 – operating on routes Prague – Ostrava, Prague – Košice – Humenné (Slovakia) and Prague – Brno – Bratislava / Vienna. In comparison to the previous year it means approximately 1.2 million passengers more in the RegioJet long distance inter-city trains – especially thanks to the launch of new services on the Prague – Brno – Vienna / Bratislava route.
RegioJet regional PSO trains in Slovakia on the Bratislava – Komárno route, carried approximately 3.8 million passengers in 2018. This represents year-on-year increase of 1 million new passengers. This is also a record number and on this single track line RegioJet trains carry approximately 5 % of all passengers on Slovak rails.
The massive increase in the number of passengers that RegioJet recorded in the year 2018 is also reflected in the positive economic results, whit the estimated pre-tax profit of 4 mil. EUR (100 mil. CZK).
With 2018 results, RegioJet has strengthened its position as the largest and most successful private railway company in Central Europe. The prospect of successful business in the railway sector has also been confirmed.
In 2018, RegioJet also launched new vehicles representing the investment value of hundreds of millions of CZK. These are in particular four multi-system locomotives Bombardier TRAXX and new Astra cars with individual screens in passenger seats.
