St. PÖLTEN: With several years imprisonment, the Provincial Court of St. Pölten a jury trial for Schlepperei in the context of a criminal organization has come to an end. A 39-year-old held eight years in prison, a 35-year-old received six and a half years imprisonment. The judgment is not final.

The Pakistani citizens were found guilty of organizing and carrying out tractor rides in July and August 2015. Two already convicted accomplices had charged the two defendants, who in return denied the allegations. The witnesses had no opportunity to deny, “the statements are extremely detailed,” said the judge.

39-year-old accepted the organization of at least ten, the 35-year-old from at least five rides. To transport 36 refugees in a van, which had ended in August 2015 in an accident with numerous casualties on the West Motorway near Amstetten, said the judge, the 39-year-old had known about the “inhuman conditions”. As a result, the lives of the refugees were endangered.
